Business Liability and Business Owner's Policy (BOP)
Business Property and Auto
A BOP can help protect your business in much the same way that a homeowners policy protects your home and personal possessions. The BOP combines these
essential coverages, providing a cost-effective solution to help safeguard your restaurant.
Business Liability coverage helps protect you, your business and your employees for claims related to property damage or bodily injury. Among other expenses, it helps cover defense costs and any settlement or judgment you’re legally obligated to pay.
This coverage helps protect the property you lease, own or rent office space or a commercial building.
Business Income coverage helps protect lost income if you’re forced to close due to direct physical loss or damage to your premises, or business property at your premises, resulting from an event covered by your policy.
A wide range of optional coverages offer additional protection for risks that are unique to restaurants. Many are available separately or in cost-effective packages, giving you the flexibility to design a program for what’s uniquely important to your business.
Your employees are important to the success of your restaurant. If an employee gets injured on the job, you can count on The Hartford to help return that worker to health and productivity quickly. Their approach to managing claims helps keep medical costs low, which could have a positive impact on your future premiums.

If you’re operating a licensed marijuana (also known as cannabis) business, Washington state rules (leg.wa.gov) require you to buy insurance to protect your business from potential losses.
Who may need to buy marijuana business-related insurance
Marijuana retail stores
Landlords who rent to marijuana business owners
What the insurance covers
In Washington state, your coverage must include (leg.wa.gov):
Commercial general liability coverage – This protects business owners against losses due to bodily injury or property damage that occur during business operations.
An insurance carrier rating of an A-Class VII or better – The insurer must have good financial stability, claims service and customer satisfaction ratings.
Additional insured – This means you must add the state and its employees, agents, and volunteers to your policy as an additional insured to protect them in the event your business is negligent.
What it doesn't cover
Regarding business liability and business property coverage, your insurance company may cover some interests, yet exclude marijuana products due to the conflict between federal and state laws.
If your business is located in your home, be aware there could be exclusions under your homeowner insurance policy for running a marijuana-related business.
